DJI Phantom 3 is here!

DJI Phantom 3 Quadcopter

DJI Phantom 3 – Professional and Advanced version

After the popular Phantom and Phantom 2, finally was released the latest DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter.

The new DJI Phantom 3 is available in two versions, Professional with 12MP 4K camera and Advanced with 12MP 1080P camera. On both models, the camera is installed on a  3-axis gimbal that keeps the camera super stable to allow long exposure photos.

Both versions of the new Phantom 3 have a white finish and looks very similar to DJI’s older Phantom models. The quadcopter is light enough to carry it with you everywhere, just unscrew the propellers and will fit into any dedicated backpack like the Airport Helipak from Think Tank Photo.

Over the time, the DJI manufacturer moved from third part cameras, like GoPro and other action cameras, to DJI property cameras and gimbals. Is this good or not? I don’t know but it’s definitely more expensive for the end-users.

This new Phantom quad has a completely redesigned transmitter with sensitive control sticks, dedicated buttons and up to 2km control distance.

Using a visual and ultrasonic scan, the Vision Positioning feature will help the pilots to fly indoor, near the ground and in GPS-free areas.

Just like the new Walkera X350 Premium, the new DJI Phantom 3 uses a dual GPS navigation system. In addition to GPS, the Phantom 3 also grabs data from the Russian GLOSNASS network of satellites for more accuracy and redundancy.

  1. On the DJI website, another model of this series was just announced, the: Phantom 3 4K.
It is a 4K Wi-Fi edition of the popular easy-to-fly Phantom 3 Series.
This new model probably will replace the Phantom 3 standard which has “only” a 2.7K camera…

    • Yes, the Phantom 3 4K is basically the same aircraft, but will work with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi video downlink (FPV range up to 1.2km). Instead of the Lightbridge technology which is more reliable (stable) and has about 5KM range.

  2. The new Phantom 3 Standard was just announced.
It has 2.7k (1520P) video resolution and 500 meter live image range.
The most important thing is the PRICE, the new Phantom 3 Standard is sold for only $750!

  3. It looks like the price difference is only for the 4K camera and improved Li-Po charger. Inspire 1 uses the same UHD camera?

  4. I even not got my Phantom 3 and the guys from DJI had already released a new firmware upgrade?
Hopefully this new model is not full of bugs or it has fly away issues…

  5. There will be a camera-less version of the Phantom 3? I want to use it with my GoPro HERO4 camera. I love it, because It has a much wider angle lens.

  6. Just to make a visual difference: the Phantom 3 Professional has a gold finish and the Phantom 3 Advanced has a silver finish.

  7. This is good news! I’m searching for a good FPV quadcopter.
It looks like this DJI Phantom 3 fits all my requirements and also my $1000 budget.
Regarding the noise, I don’t believe it is so silent that can fly inside a church without disturb the guests.
