DJI O3 Air Unit FCC Range Hack tutorial with included HAM file

DJI O3 AIR UNIT FCC HACK

The DJI O3 Air Unit is only for two days on the market, and it has already been hacked. If you are in the FCC region, you will get out of the box the best possible range. Instead, the CE version has a much shorter transmission distance. According to the manufacturer’s technical specs, in FCC mode range is 10KM, and in CE mode is only 2KM. Of course, these distances can be obtained only in optimal conditions, flat ground, no obstacles, and low RF noise.

After unlocking FCC mode, the VTX power increased from a few mW to over 1W. Remember that 25mW is the maximum unlicensed power you can transmit in many countries worldwide, particularly in Europe (CE). That means performing this range hack without owning the required permits to transmit stronger signals would be illegal.

O3 AU Transmission Power (EIRP) and Range:

  • FCC: < 33 dBm | 10KM
  • CE: < 14 dBm | 2KM
  • SRRC: < 30 dBm | 6KM

Performing the FCC unlock on the O3 Air Unit is identical to the DJI AVATA range hack. Practically, you just need to create an empty plain text file with the name ‘ham_cfg_support’, save it with no extension, and copy it to the root of the micro SD card on the FPV Goggles 2\V2. After you restart the goggles and power them ON, the AU O3 FCC mode is enabled, and you can enjoy the best range regardless of your location. The Ham file can be downloaded from here.

  1. I dumped “ham_cfg_support” onto a USB, plugged it into Goggles Integra, but Integra is like, “USB? What USB?”
I even took a swing with the “B3yond” app, but it’s throwing shade, saying it can’t recognize the device.

Any tech wizards out there got a clue? Is there some secret sauce for pulling off the FCC hack?

  2. Worked for me, thank you! Now, in FCC I have 7 channels. Before in CE I had only 3.
The actual range is not double but significantly better :)

  3. hello,
can you please inform me, I bought a dji air unit 03 to replace the previous model, I put the ham file in the glasses which have indeed switched to several channels so the goggle 2 glasses are in fcc, on the other hand I have a very low range, can you tell me if I have to put a flight card on my air unit 03 which I mounted on a flying wing and not a drone? I just powered my air unit03, the image is perfect but After 500m it turns red, I don’t know what to do anymore, thank you for your help, on the old model everything worked without a flight card. What should I do?
    thank you!

  4. Has there been any documented range tests of the O3 air unit? DJI claims 10 KM, but I’m yet to see if it’s true.

Vista claimed to have 4km however, I never got over 2.5km.

    • I went with my Goggles2 / O3 already around 15km but on a flying wing. They have way less RF noise than a quadcopter. I saw already videos of 24km flights with the O3, but not with stock antennas.
