Insta360 X4 Battery Review: Are the K&F CONCEPT Cheap Alternatives Worth It?

Two Insta360 X4 batteries with bonus dual-slot charger for just $32.99!

Genuine (OEM) Insta360 X4 accessories tend to be quite expensive, and if you plan to use your 360° camera intensively, having a few extra batteries is not just convenient — it’s essential. In this review, we’ll look closer at the K&F Concept X4 batteries, which promise the same power at a significantly lower price point. We’ll thoroughly analyze their compatibility with the Insta360 X4 camera, assess their real-world runtime performance, and evaluate whether they present a worthwhile alternative to the original OEM batteries.

According to the manufacturer’s lab tests, the Insta360 X4’s stock 2290mAh battery has a runtime of 135 minutes when shooting in 5.7K at 30fps or 75 minutes at 8K at 30fps. Instead, users reported much shorter real-world battery life. Heavily using the screen, recording at 100fps, or enabling HDR will drastically reduce battery life. For creators who record extended sessions or travel frequently, investing in spare batteries is highly recommended to avoid interruptions and maximize your shooting experience.

As shown in my Insta360 X4 review, the base kit has only one battery that charges through the camera. Even if I have a ready-to-use spare battery, charging the empty one requires keeping the camera connected to a USB power source. K&F Concept’s dual X4 combo pack includes a charger that allows you to charge two batteries simultaneously, enabling you to use the camera without interruption — just swap the battery and continue shooting.

K&F Concept X4 Battery Charger Combo Review

Disclosure: I received this X4 battery combo for a product review collaboration with K&F Concept. Product specs and quality may vary according to the manufacturer’s reliability, so I cannot guarantee that you will get products that perform the same as seen in my article.

K&F Concept is a brand that’s gained a solid reputation among photographers, videographers, drone hobbyists, and other content creators for offering reliable and affordable gear. They’re best known for their wide range of camera accessories, including tripods, filters, lens adapters, and battery chargers. While they may not always be the top premium choice, many users appreciate the brand’s thoughtful design, decent build quality, and consistent value. Over the years, K&F Concept has steadily built trust in the creative community by making practical, everyday tools to do the job.

Having some free time, I contacted K&F Concept to explore their latest products for a potential review collaboration. I selected five items, including this battery kit. As an avid user of the Insta360 X4 camera, I was pleased when I received this combo of two compatible batteries with an included charger.

At a glance

As used to K&F Concept, the kit comes in a universal box, and only a label shows the exact content. When opened, I found two 2350mAh (9.05Wh) batteries and a dual-slot battery charger inside. Additionally, the kit also includes a USB to Type-C cable that allows you to charge from a USB adapter, power bank, cell phone charger, car charger, or computer.

The batteries fit perfectly into the camera and have a solid build quality. They weigh 49 grams, making them lighter than my stock X4 battery. The only visible difference between the OEM and K&F batteries is the presence of metal locking bolts. Naturally, they also feature a rubber seal to help keep the camera watertight.

As mentioned, the K&F Concept X4 charger allows you to charge two batteries simultaneously. Each battery has its own status indicator LED and a maximum output of 750mA (±80mA). At this power level, you can expect a full charge to take approximately 3 hours, which is relatively slow compared to fast-charging options available on the original charger. While it gets the job done reliably, it may not be the ideal solution for those who need to recharge multiple batteries between shooting sessions quickly. However, this charging time is acceptable for casual users and ensures safe, steady battery health over time.

The charger features Micro USB and Type-C ports for wider compatibility and requires a 5V/2.1A input for optimal performance. The K&F X4 charger features all standard market safety protections, including temperature, over-voltage, over-current, overcharge, and short-circuit protection.

Price and availability

During the “Prime Day Deal”, you can grab this dual-battery pack, complete with an included charger, for just $32.99 directly from the K&F Concept online store. Considering that just one OEM X4 battery costs $39.99, it’s definitely a bargain. It’s a smart, budget-friendly option for anyone looking to extend their shooting time without overspending.

K&F Concept X4 battery and charger performance

Performance-wise, the K&F Concept X4 batteries promise the same runtime as the original ones. When I tested them, I did not notice any significant difference. Since each test lasted around 2 hours per battery, I conducted only one timed session using a stopwatch. Realistically, the observed runtime difference of just 3 minutes could be attributed to various factors beyond battery performance, such as ambient temperature variations, changes in light levels, or minor manufacturing tolerances.

At around 6–7% remaining power, the X4 stopped shooting, and at 5% it shut down automatically to protect the battery from over-discharge. When removed, the battery was very hot (over 40°C), which is normal since the entire camera tends to heat up after a few minutes of recording.

Insta360’s OEM X4 charger promises to get your battery up to 80% in 26 minutes and 100% in only 43 minutes. Unfortunately, the K&F charger is much slower, charging from 5% to 100% taking about 3 hours.

 Insta360 X4 Battery vs. K&F Concept X4 Battery — Comparison Table

As you can see in the table below, although the K&F Concept X4 battery has a slightly higher capacity and features metal locking tabs, it is a few grams lighter than the OEM X4 battery. The two batteries are perfectly identical in size and shape, and there doesn’t appear to be any noticeable difference in build quality. The only design flaw I found is the absence of the sealing indicator. If the original battery is incorrectly seated, an orange mark remains visible to warn the user. Another notable issue is that when you insert the battery, you must place the locker in the inner position; otherwise, you could damage the camera or the battery. In the case of the original battery, you press it into the camera, and it secures itself automatically.

Price-wise, this third-party X4 combo is nearly four times cheaper than the original. Two OEM Insta360 X4 batteries with the official charger cost $124.97, while the K&F Concept X4 kit is priced at just $32.99. Practically, you get two batteries plus a charger for less than the price of one genuine battery.

Are K&F Concept X4 Batteries Compatible with the Insta360 X5?

Unfortunately, the answer is NO! To improve the runtime of the new X5 camera, Insta360 has introduced a higher-capacity 2400mAh / 4.48V battery, with a different shape and size compared to the previous one.
