RadioMaster TX15: Say hello to the future of ELRS

2.4GHz & Sub-G 900MHz ExpressLRS, V5.0 Hall sensor gimbals, Touchscreen Display, Interchangeable Shoulder Switches, and more!

After years of loyal service from my old transmitter, it is finally time for an upgrade. In this review, I look closer at my new RadioMaster TX15 dual-band ELRS radio—why I made the change, how it compares, and whether it truly lives up to the hype.

When it comes to ExpressLRS radio protocol, the two main frequency bands are 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz, and each has its strengths. The 2.4 GHz band is excellent for fast response, over long distances, and works well in crowded areas where a lot of signals are flying around (suitable for long-range and freestyling). Meanwhile, the 900 MHz band really shines when you need the best signal penetration through obstacles like trees or buildings (suitable for bando). A dual-band radio like the RadioMaster TX15 that supports both frequencies is a game-changer because you can easily switch depending on where and how you fly. It means you’re not stuck with just one option and can always get the best connection possible—whether you’re flying close by or pushing the limits of your FPV drone’s range.

One visible difference between 2.4GHz and 900MHz ELRS systems is antenna size. Because lower frequencies require longer wavelengths, 900MHz antennas are noticeably larger than those used for 2.4GHz. This means that while 2.4GHz antennas are compact and easy to mount on drones or radios, 900MHz antennas can be bulkier and may require more thoughtful placement to avoid affecting balance or portability. The TX15 features a single foldable T-type antenna that supports both frequency bands.

RadioMaster TX15 review

Disclosure: I received this dual-band ELRS radio controller from RadioMaster to test and do an in-depth review. Although the RC was offered for free, all opinions in this article remain my own, with no influence from my partner. I can’t guarantee you will get the same radio, as I received a pre-release unit.

RadioMaster has quickly become one of the most trusted names in the FPV and RC hobby world. Known for their reliable and innovative radio transmitters, they deliver gear that meets the needs of both beginner pilots and experienced professionals. With products like the TX16S Max, Zorro, and the latest TX15 series, RadioMaster has set a new standard in radio control by combining modern features like EdgeTX firmware, Hall sensor gimbals, and built-in ExpressLRS—all at a competitive price point.

I’ve been flying with the RadioMaster Zorro since 2022, and it’s been rock-solid—I’ve never had a single problem with it. Now that I’m retiring my old radio, I hope the TX15 won’t disappoint me either.

I received the package six days before the official release (July 29, 2025) and just two days before leaving for my summer holiday, so I haven’t had much time to put it through its paces yet. That said, I’ll update this review’s User Experience section as I spend more time flying with it. Stay tuned for hands-on impressions and real-world performance insights!

Unboxing the RadioMaster TX15 with accessories displayed on a table.

At a glance

The TX15 comes in a nice carry case for convenient storage, along with an 18650 battery tray, USB-C cable, five spare high-tension gimbal springs, shoulder switch upgrade kit, two 2-position switches, a screen protector, and a user manual. Additionally, RadioMaster sent me a pair of 18650 3200mAh batteries and a set of two 3-position SE and SF switches, beyond the standard kit.

As you can see in the photo above, the case has a dedicated compartment to accommodate the radio, which is secured with a Velcro band. The top flap includes a zippered mesh pocket for smaller accessories, such as the charging cable.

Instead of a gamepad controller-like design (See photo, compared to the RM Zorro), the TX15 has a simple, rectangular form factor. The radio measures 178×168×81mm and weighs about 600 grams. I received the Mint Mist version, but five other cool color options are also available. Surely, the most attractive part of this transmitter is the large (3.5-inch, 480 x 320px) IPS color display. Some manufacturers tend to believe that only eagle-eyed young people are passionate about this hobby, and put up screens that old foxes like me need a magnifying glass to read.

TX15 on the left and Zorro on the right

On top of the radio are two upgradable shoulder buttons (momentary and latch). If you prefer the old-school metal switches, RM includes an upgrade kit for two-poz switches. On the left of the foldable/rotatable T-type antenna is a DSC (Direct Student Connection) 3.5mm jack, which is intended for trainer functions or simulator connections. A headphone jack and a USB Type-C port for data connection and charging are on the other side.

On the back, inside the spacious battery bay, there is a micro switch button and a microSD card slot. The RM TX15 is designed to be powered by two 18650 or 21700 lithium-ion batteries. Featuring a standard 2S balance port, LiPo batteries can also power it. The built-in charging circuit allows you to recharge the batteries without removing them.

While the housing of the RadioMaster TX15 is made entirely of plastic, it feels solid and well-constructed, with no noticeable flex or creaking. The build quality inspires confidence, especially for a mid-range radio. On the back, a Kevlar-like fabric carry handle makes it easy to transport, whether you’re heading to the field or packing it in a travel case. Both sides of the transmitter feature a rubberized finish, providing a secure and comfortable grip — even during extended flying sessions or in warm weather when your hands become sweaty. The handles feel removable, so that aftermarket options may be available as upgrades in the future.

TX15 Radio Master: Upgrade ready controls

The TX15 features a stick, switch, and button layout closely modeled after the Boxer, making it familiar and intuitive for existing users. In addition to its V5.0 Hall sensor gimbals, the TX15 is equipped with six backlit, configurable flight mode buttons, four 3-position switches (SA, SB, SC, and SD), and two rotary dials (S1 and S2). It also features four tiny trim switches and a standard set of configuration buttons, including RTN, Page >, Page <, Tele, and MDL. For streamlined navigation within the EdgeTX menus, the transmitter includes a large, easy-to-use rotary selector (barrel dial).

As mentioned earlier, the top (shoulder) buttons on the TX15 are replaceable and can be swapped out with either two-position or three-position switches, depending on your preference. This modular design allows for greater customization to suit different flying styles or control needs. You can configure these switches to function either as latched (on/off) or momentary (temporary) inputs, giving you flexibility for features like arming, flight mode selection, or activating special functions such as a beeper or turtle mode.

Adjusting the gimbal tension on the RM TX15 is very convenient, as it can be done directly from the front of the transmitter—no disassembly required.

TX15 Radio Master: ELRS inside & outside

The TX15 features a dual-band LR1121 Semtech transceiver supporting 2.4GHz and Sub-G 900MHz frequencies. You can toggle between the two operation modes in the ELRS Lua script (Pocket rate tab). Transmission power can be adjusted between 25mW and 1000mW. It comes flashed with ExpressLRS 3.5.5 out of the box. The latest compatible ELRS firmware is 3.5.6, and the upgrade can be done through the Wi-Fi update method.

The TX15 supports an external JR module and is compatible with systems like Crossfire, ExpressLRS, Ghost, Tracer, and more. Of course, you can also install nano modules such as the BetaFPV SuperG Nano Gemini TX using a JR-to-Nano bay adapter.

RadioMaster TX15: Radio receiver compatibility

The TX15 is compatible with most 2.4Ghz and 900MHz radio receivers (RX) regardless of brand. It is also compatible with dual-band RX modules such as the Radio Master XR3 Nano, XR4 Gemini Xrossband, GEPRC ELRS 915M/2.4G Gemini, BetaFPV SuperX ELRS Gemini Xross, and other models. The most important consideration is ensuring the receiver (RX) and transmitter (TX) run the same major version of ELRS.

Remember, while the 900MHz (typically 915MHz) band is widely used in the US and other parts of the world for long-range FPV, pilots in the European Union are required to use the 868MHz band (often rounded to 866MHz for compatibility labeling). The two frequencies are not directly cross-compatible, so ensuring that the transmitter module and receiver are set to the same regional band is essential.

RadioMaster TX15 vs TX15 Max: Which One Should You Buy?

The “Max” edition of the TX15 features higher quality AG02 CNC aluminum Hall sensor gimbals with travel adjustment, RGB customizable gimbal light rings, and more premium Red, Black, and Gold finishes.

Both feature the same ELRS capabilities, a large color display, and a compact form factor. The TX15 is a solid, full-featured radio ideal for beginner to intermediate pilots who want reliability, dual-band ELRS, and great value. The TX15 Max is for serious pilots who want AG02 CNC gimbals, gimbal light rings, and premium materials without spending a fortune on a full-size radio like the TX16S Max.
