DJI NEO 2: Same Fun, But Safer!

Forward-looking LiDAR, better camera, smoother gimbal, and more!

DJI NEO 2 FPV drone with forward-looking LiDAR, upgraded camera, and stabilized gimbal in flight.

The new DJI NEO 2 has quietly made its debut, though for now it is available exclusively in the Chinese market. This second-generation model brings notable upgrades, including a LIDAR-based obstacle avoidance system and a dual-axis gimbal, setting a new benchmark for performance and precision.

Just like its predecessor, the DJI NEO 2 features a full 360° Whoop-type propeller guard, offering enhanced safety for both the drone and its surroundings. While this additional hardware does add a bit of weight, the overall design remains impressively lightweight—still well under the 250-gram threshold. At just 151 grams, the NEO 2 complies with most drone regulations for hobbyists and professionals alike, without compromising on protection or performance.

While the original NEO (V1) featured a single-axis gimbal that allowed only angle adjustment, this new release introduces a two-axis gimbal with mechanical image stabilization for smoother, more stable footage. It now offers 49 GB of onboard storage—an upgrade from the previous 22 GB.

The DJI Neo 2 can record in 4K at up to 60 frames per second (fps), whereas the original model was limited to 30 fps, just like the O4 Air Unit (Lite). When using a remote controller, you can push this even further—up to 100 fps in 4K—for stunning slow-motion shots.

DJI NEO 2 Brings LiDAR Obstacle Avoidance to FPV Flight

In my opinion, one of the standout upgrades in the Neo 2 is its LIDAR advanced obstacle avoidance system. The previous Neo relied on a single directional sensor, which offered limited protection. The new model takes things to the next level with LiDAR technology—a system that uses laser pulses to measure distances and create a precise 3D map of the surroundings. This allows the drone to detect and avoid obstacles in front of it with remarkable accuracy.

In addition, the Neo 2 features downward-facing infrared sensors that enhance stability and safety during flight, especially when flying close to the ground. Another handy addition is the Return to Palm feature, making it easier to bring the drone back safely and conveniently.

Pricing and availability

For now, the DJI Neo 2 is only available in China, with a price tag of 1,499 Yuan—roughly $209 at current exchange rates, before any tariffs. The good news? A European launch is expected around mid-November, so fans won’t have to wait too long. As for the U.S., things are less certain. With the ongoing government push to restrict DJI products, it’s unclear whether the Neo 2 will ever make its way stateside.

Bongggod listed the NEO2 (only drone) for $275.00 and the Montion Fly More Combo kit with three batteries and DJI Goggles N3 for $569.00.
