DJI Power 500 & 1000: Outdoor Power Sources for Your Drones

DJI portable power stations

DJI, a market leader in consumer drones, announced the release of their first portable portion, the Power 500 and 1000. The compact DJI Power 500 has a storage capacity of  500Wh, and the bigger DJI Power 1000 of 1024Wh.

When I reviewed the first solar generators from Anker and Bluetti, some of my readers asked what these have to do with the world of drones. I explained to them that portable portable generators of the type launched today by DJI allow you to charge the batteries right on the airfield. Of course, their usefulness does not stop here; they are also very useful for off-grid leaving (traveling in an RV or camping).

Like most power stations released in 2024, the DJI Power 500 and 1000 also use lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4) cells, allowing for up to 5,000 charge cycles. This means the unit is expected to last about ten years, even with frequent use. Both models have two high-power Type-C outputs and two AC sockets.

The more powerful DJI Power 1000 offers three charging modes: AC, solar power, and DC 12V car charging. In fast-charging mode, the P1000 can reach 80% power in 50 minutes and a full charge from zero in 70 minutes. Using an 800W solar panel array, it can be charged in 1.5-2 hours.

DJI Power 500 vs DJI Power 1000 comparison: Which Fits Best for You?

In a nutshell, the DJI Power 1000 is the DJI Power 500 squared. It has double storage capacity, more than twice the output power, and almost three times higher solar panel input. The DJI 1kWh power station is also twice as heavy as the 0.5kWh version.

If you need a portable power station to power or charge mainly gadgets over a USB port, the DJI Power 500 is probably the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you need a solar generator to power not just your drone and vlogging gears but also 99% of your common home appliances, the DJI Power 1000 is what you need.
