RadioMaster AX12: Do We Really Need an Android Radio Controller?

RadioMaster AX12 Android-based radio controller with touchscreen display and control sticks

It looks like RadioMaster’s development team hasn’t taken a break in 2026. After releasing the upgraded TX16S Mark III, they quickly followed up with the AX12, and they’ve already teased another upcoming radio controller in a recent video. Considering we’re only in April, releasing three models in such a short time is quite impressive.

The RadioMaster AX12 stands out not only in appearance but also in its operating system. While most FPV controllers rely on EdgeTX or OpenTX, this new model is built on Android, providing a more familiar and intuitive user interface. This approach makes it appealing not just for FPV pilots, but also for filmmakers, rover builders, boat enthusiasts, and other creators looking for greater flexibility and ease of use.

Instead of relying on a multitude of buttons and switches, the RadioMaster AX12 features a large 5.5-inch IPS touchscreen paired with high-quality X5 Hall-effect gimbals. This modern approach creates a cleaner, more intuitive control experience. To ensure excellent usability even outdoors in bright sunlight, the display offers a sharp 1280 × 720 resolution and an impressive brightness level of up to 1000 nits, making it easy to read in virtually any conditions.

Just like the TX15 and TX16S radios, the AX12 also features a built-in dual-band ELRS transmission module that supports 2.4 GHz and sub-G 900 MHz frequencies. For other protocols, it includes a Nano external module bay on the back.

unning on Android 9.0 can be considered outdated, especially since modern devices are already on version 15. Still, it allows you to run common applications such as the Chrome web browser, as well as Facebook and Instagram clients. Under the hood, an octa-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage deliver smooth performance for control tasks, telemetry viewing, supported ground station apps, and various utilities.

HDMI IN and HDMI Out

One of the standout features of the RadioMaster AX12 is its HDMI input port, which allows you to display your FPV feed directly on the controller’s screen. Whether you’re flying analog or digital FPV, this adds a new level of convenience by eliminating the need for separate goggles in certain scenarios. Compatible receivers like the Walksnail Avatar VRX or the ArtLynk HGLRC Draco VRX can be connected easily, turning the AX12 into a compact all-in-one monitoring solution.

On the other hand, the HDMI output port expands its versatility even further. It allows you to connect the RadioMaster AX12 to a larger display or even a 4K television, making it ideal for sharing your live feed with others, reviewing footage, or creating a more immersive experience during demonstrations or events.
