DJI O3 Air Unit: The ultimate HD Digital FPV system

Go the Distance

DJI O3 Air Unit

The DJI O3 Air Unit is probably the most expected FPV gear of 2022. A few months ago, the original AU was discontinued and out of stock at many online retailers. The first rumors about the new generation O3 AU appeared together with the official announcement of the DJI Avata FPV drone. The biggest concern of the FPV community was the backward compatibility of the new digital video transmission platform.

According to the leaked technical specs, the DJI O3 Air Unit is compatible with the DJI FPV Goggles V2 and DJI Goggles 2. It can be paired with the FPV Remote Controller 2 and, hopefully, with other non-DJI transmitters.

The O3 VTX module measures 32.5×30.5×14.5mm and weighs about 37 grams. The camera module measures 21.2x20x19.5 and weighs 8.5 grams. The camera features a 1/1.7″ 48MP CMOS image sensor and has a 155° field of view (FOV). The system provides onboard 4K@60fps video recording. The micro SD slot can be loaded with memory cards of up to 256GB. It also has 20GB of built-in memory for video recording.

Like its predecessor, the new DJI O3 Air Unit also has two RF modes. While in FCC (US) mode, the range is up to 10KM, in CE (Europe) mode is 6KM. You can expect a 30ms end-to-end latency for a distance of 2KM and 1080p/100fps (H265) video transmission format.

The O3 AU uses 2T2R Omnidirectional antennas, guaranteeing greater stability and smoother transmission. Set off on your next adventure in the skies and experience an unforgettable experience.

Pricing and availability

The O3 Air Unit kit can be ordered from here for $229 in the US or 259 € in Europe. This price includes VTX, Camera, Antenna, and FC cable. Separately, the camera module will cost you $109 and the VTX module $169.

    • It’s a mode where you can see all of the Betaflight OSD elements in your goggles. Stuff like flight distance, G-force, your PIDs and other stuff that DJI didn’t let you see on the first AirUnit. It’s the complete information which so far was only available to analog users or, more recently, if you jailbroke your old goggles and air unit with WTFOS.
