ZLRC SG906 PRO 3 MAX: Beast with Laser Obstacle Avoidance

Following the epic success of the Beast series, ZLRC just announced their 4th generation named SG906 PRO 3 MAX (aka Beast 3). The most significant upgrade of this GPS enabled foldable drone is the laser-based obstacle avoidance module. This sensor helps to avoid collisions when the drone performers autonomous flight modes like RTH or Follow me.

Its Sony IMX179 based camera is capable to record 4K videos with 25 frames per second. The angle of the main camera can be remotely adjusted in order to get the best framing of your footage.

Thanks to the fail-safe return to home (RTH) function, in case of remote controller signal loss or low battery voltage, the aircraft will return autonomously to the take-off point.

Laser obstacle sensor

The new SG906 PRO 3 MAX doubles the image stabilization of the older SG906 Pro 2, by enhancing with 3-axis mechanical gimbal with electronic image stabilization (EIS). Being powered by the same 7.6V/3400mAh battery, it also has about 23-26 flight autonomy. Compared to its predecessor, the Beast 3 is about 30 grams heavier.

Price and availability

Starting with December 19, the new ZLRC Beast3 can be ordered from Banggood with one battery for US$189.99. This price includes a set of spare propellers, a battery charger, and a nice should bag. In case you need longer flight time, there is also an option to ‘fly more combo‘ packs with 3 flight batteries, for extra 50 bucks. Update: ZLRC changes the brand name into ZLL, and now the Beast 3 is named ZLL SG906 MAX.

Remote controller and flight range

ZLRC includes with their SG906 PRO 3 a nice entry-level remote controller with a cool carbon finish. In addition to the usual control sticks and power switch, there are 6 buttons and a blue LCD status screen.

While the control range provided by the transmitter is about 1200 meters, the FPV (WIFI live video) range is only 800 meters.

  3. good afternoon I bought a drone of your brand less than 6 months ago and I’m having a problem with the seller here in my region with whom I need to talk to try to solve this problem.
    the drone at a certain point loses communication with the smart phone and there is no way to visualize what is being photographed or filmed the model is 906 pro max.
    Please contact me I work with the drone and I am unable to work they do not solve the problem and do not say anything I have sent several e-mails and nothing, they do not answer the phone. how do I solve this???

  5. GOT MY ZLL SG906 MAX TODAY, LOOKING FOR THE SNID OR SN ON THE UNIT CAN NOT FIND. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WERE TO LOOK OR IF IT EVEN HAS ONE????

    • I asked the same question of Captain Drone and his reply was that drones that are under $300 usually do not have a warranty and therefore do not have serial numbers. Hope this helps.

    • I found out that the Serial No is the last 6 numbers in your drone’s WIFI name. So if you power up your drone and find it’s wifi listing from your phone, the last 6 typically work as your S/N. Am I 100% on this? meh.. But It’s the closest answer I found and is a unique number.

  6. Hi, I have an sg906 max, 2 months now. Unlikely a drone fight on a tree and then hit with the camera on the ground. The camera was disassembled and I tried to assemble it again. Everything went perfect until I screw with a small screw over the cup of the camera board the 18 pin cable that connects the camera with the camera board. After that, I lost the Wi-Fi connection and the camera connection. For a while camera response to up and down from the remote control but now stop that too. What do you think it’s better to do? Try to change only the cable try to change the whole system of the camera and the board or buy another drone. I’m in Greece and there is no service or spare parts for this model. Not even technicians for this kind of drone.

  7. The automatic return home feature has the drone fly to 90 ft then return home, can that altitude be adjusted?

    • I just got mine today. Had it hovering at eye level. Hit return home to test it. Went straight up. Veered the side a bit over some trees then straight down through the tree-like an flying weed eater straight into the pavement. 5 minutes flight now it’s trash

    Sorry LIMITLESS 3 shill, but I’ll buy an SG906 MAX for half the price ’cause I can wait a couple of weeks for it to arrive.

  11. I’ve bought one and tried it last weekend.
    It’s nice to have some features.
    However:
    video quality has some issues;
    vertically it went up to 125m (37ft), then it stopped responding;
    it shakes a bit;
    I can´t move the camera up or down from the remote.

      For safety measurements, most drones have a max altitude limited to 120 meters.

        I’m still learning how to control it therefore I haven´t tried a longer distance (horizontally). Will try it and then give feedback.

    • I’ve tried it one more time and suddenly I can adjust camera from remote control.
      I’m using XiL PRO app and video has some delay. I’m trying other apps but is difficult to find one that’s compatible with this drone. I found WiFi UFO and even though it doesn’t have all the features, video has almost no delay. I haven´t tried do record and watch it, though. I found another one (VIDEODRONE GPS) that’s compatible, but haven’t tried it yet.
      Does anyone know a better app for this drone?

  15. I was between the firsts who ordered the SG906 MAX drone. I wanted to test the obstacle avoidance system.
    – Flight time is approximatively 22-24 minutes per charge
    – FPV transmission range of up to 600 meters (with Samsung S10 phone)
    – Controller range is around 1KM in best conditions
    – The laser scanner can detect objects from 20 feet

  16. Have anyone have their SG906 PRO 3 flew away? I think this is the worst nightmare that can happen with your drone

    • Hey Alex, yes. I just had my drone fly away from me. And it sucks. I had the Pro 2. I’m looking at the 3 to see how much better the 3 will be.

      • That’s cause you got the cheap version straight from china. The one made with AMERICAN standards is called LIMITLESS 3 sold by drone clone experts. It’s more expensive, but well worth the money imo cause the quality is better and I actually get customer support. If anything ever happens, I’m covered. They just sent me a free set of extra propellers cause mine cracked when I stupidly tried going under a small bridge.

    • Mine flew away today. It happened when the wifi failed. Couldn’t see it because I was flying by the camera and it was out of view. No way to get it back under this situation.

      • Oops, I responded to the wrong person. See my comment to anonymous. THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN! It’s supposed to fly right back to you if signal is ever lost. At least that’s what my LIMITLESS 3 does.

    • Yes. Mine did. Lost picture, then wifi, then GPS and away it went. I tried everything to get it back. So much for the auto-return, if the connection is lost lie.

  18. My brand new SG906 MAX is crashed into a deep lake yesterday on the first flight. I did calibrated both compass and the gyro before this flight, the drone seems to fly pretty stable before this happened. Battery was fully charged and the accident happened after less than 10min being on the air.

    • That’s awful, sorry to hear that man. Likely because that’s the cheaper Chinese model. The American Model is called LIMITLESS 3 that looks identical but apparently made by USA standards. I’ve been flying mine almost daily since January with no issues and the company that sells it drone clone experts has been great about responding to my questions (The only thing I don’t understand is that sometimes they respond immediately, and then other times it takes a full day for them to get back to me. I don’t really understand why, but I’m working on practising patience anyway )

  30. How do you format the sd card for the SG906 MAX. When I go in the app it says format sd but it’s not selectable. Can I format on my computer? Fat32 or NTFS?

    • Yes, Probably only after the Chinese NY.
      I expect this drone for review, and today my partner said that I need to wait a few weeks more. They have the basic edition (without EIS), but that is only a SG906Pro2 with EVO sensor.

    • You have to wait for 60 days from purchase before you even start thinking of a refund. Be patient. You will most likely get it. I have had items take 40 days from when I ordered it to arrive to my house in USA.

  36. Who is the actual manufacturer of this sg906 max drone? I can’t find it and would like to contact them regarding the pdf user manual and issues that I found during my test flights.

    • Apparently, the SG906 MAX (aka Beast 3) will have two camera versions. One without EIS (like the Pro 2) and one with 3-axis gimbal and EIS (electronic image stabilization). I expect to get one for review, so stay tuned!

    – 2020 edition with UHD 3-axis camera + EVO system
    – 2021 edition with 4K EIS 3-axis camera and EVO sensor

  44. I ordered the Beast Max Pro 3 I will give a commentary and in approximately two to three weeks I’m looking forward to it. I had a e x 4 Drone And it would not connect to satellites for GPS This one should perform well? LOL

      Wait for your impressions about the Beast Max Pro 3. Please test battery life and max range. Also, please submit some sample videos.

  50. I just ordered the older Beast, it was not even shipped out… Should I cancel my order and get the Pro 2 MAX? Does that laser sensor truly work??
