PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 accessories review

PGYTech Mavic Air 2 accessories

Choosing the right accessories and gadgets for your Mavic Air 2 can be complicated.
Firstly, you have to decide what do you really need? Fun, safety, storage, video-making, or all kind of accessories from the same trusted brand? Here comes PGYTECH in the picture. They don’t just offer a wide range of Air 2 accessories but are between the few (if not the only one) of the manufactures that have been officially approved by DJI.

PGYTECH is a Chinese company specialized in action cameras, smartphones, and drone gears. They recently launched a large variety of DJI Mavic 2 accessories including an entire lineup of optical filters (UV, ND, VND, and CPL).

As I related in my Mavic Air 2 review, the standard edition comes in a cardboard box, making it complicated to carry even if it is an extremely portable drone. When you spend almost 1000 bucks for such gear, investing in a good case is definitely worth it. PGY-TECH offers 4 types of storage solutions, including a comfortable backpack and a hardshell safety case for when you are traveling by plane.

Introduction

PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 ND filters, propeller holder and case review

Disclosure: I received these Mavic Air 2 drone accessories as part of a product review collaboration with PGYTECH. Although the gears were offered for free, all the opinions in this review remain my own!

After I checked all their Mavic Air 2 accessories we agreed to test three of them (carrying case, propeller holder, and ND filters kit). All gears were nicely packed with included user guide and bonus Pgytech stickers. Now, let’s have a closer look at each of them!

1. PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 carrying case

As a design, I could say that the PGYTech case has more an elegant line than a sport one, fashionable people will love it for sure. Made from multi-layered TPU material and adopting watertight zipper, the case will protect its precious content during rainy days.

The case measures about 29 x 23 x 12 cm and weighs a bit more than half a kilo. By default, it comes with a handler but there is also included shoulder strap. Wearing the case is very comfortable, the strap can be adjusted according to your height and needs.

The PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 case has dedicated compartments for the drone, remote controller, two batteries, charger, and combo charging hub. While RC and batteries are secured by a velcro flap, the rest of the accessories by rubber bands.

  • A custom-molded case for Mavic Air 2;
  • Stylish yet indestructible (TPU multi-layered material);

  • Internal securing rubber bands;
  • Removable shoulder strap and integrated carry handle for easy transport;
  • P34 water-resistant (Sealed watertight zipper).

Features of PGYTech DJI Mavic Air 2 case

Pros

  • Suitable for both Mavic Air 2 combo and standard packs;
  • Impact and water-resistant outer shell;
  • Adjustable shoulder strap + hand strap;
  • Friendly priced, only $49.90 – Order from here

Cons

  • I’m not a big fan of the vertical form-factor;
  • Lack of internal zipped pocket for small accessories like memory cards.

2. PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 propeller holder

The kit includes two pieces of holders, a large one for front propellers which secures the blades to the top of the drone, and a smaller one for securing the rear props to the bottom of the aircraft. While the bottom protector is made entirely from some soft rubber, the upper one is made from two pieces of plastic tied together with an elastic band.

Without any doubt, these tiny devices make their job perfectly. They hold and protect the propellers during storing and transportation. I know that this job can be also made using inexpensive rubber bands, but they do not look as good as these PGYTECH prop holders.

Installing the blade holder is very easy, you just need to fold the propellers inward and attach the protectors as shown in the image below.

Highlights

  • Compact and lightweight;
  • Specially designed to efficiently hold and protect Mavic Air 2’s propellers;
  • Only $12.90, buy from PGYTECH

3. PGYTECH Mavic Air 2 ND filter pack (ND8, ND16, ND32, and ND64)

Filters come in a box with a magnetic lid, which I found more interesting than truly practical. There are included four neutral density filters (ND8, ND16, ND32, and 64) and a cleaning cloth. The multi-coated Schott glass filters are mounted into a lightweight red aluminum frame.

A stop (F-Number) in photography is either halving or doubling the amount of light passing through the lens. In the case of neutral density filters, you are always reducing the amount of light. For example, a 5-stops filter (ND32) is blocking the light by 5 halves in a row. Find below the recommendation when to use each ND filter:

  • ND64 (6 f-stops) – For extremely sunny days;
  • ND32 (5 f-stops) – Best for very bright days;
  • ND16 (4 f-stops) – For partly cloudy days or early to mid-morning;
  • ND8 (3 f-stops) – For mostly cloudy days or approaching sunset.

Installation

Featuring Mavic Air 2 compatible filter mount, installation is very easy. You just need to remove the old filter by gently rotate it to left (about 15 degrees). The new filter needs to be placed in its position and rotated to the right till aligns perfectly with the lens. Note: You should support the gimbal during the process in order to avoid putting excessive stress on the sensitive motors. Also, you should only remove/mount a filter when it’s powered off.

  • Reduces reflection without color shifts;
  • Pass startup gimbal calibration process;

  • Excellent build quality, it fits perfectly for Mavic Air 2;
  • No visible negative impact on image quality;
  • Included lens cleaning wipes;
  • With a lifetime warranty, only $49.99

Cons

  • None for now.

  1. I’ve used the ND16 filter once since I bought them, and it worked well. I was well impressed with the filter’s quality, they fit well on the Mavic Air 2.

  2. Looking for recommendations for a backpack for my Mavic Air 2 and my DSLR camera. Mainly for hillwalking. PGYTech has something good for the job? Thanks
